Security tightened in New Delhi for weekend G-20 summit

Entire New Delhi district has been designated controlled security zone-I from Friday till Sunday midnight

NEW DELHI (AA) - India has put tight security measures across the capital New Delhi as heads of governments and international organizations are arriving for a weekend G-20 summit.

Term president India is set to host the two-day summit, which will start on Saturday under the theme "One Earth, One Family, One Future."

Police set up barriers and checkpoints at key locations housing the summit venue and hotels where delegates will be staying.

The entire New Delhi district has been designated as a controlled zone-I from early Friday till Sunday midnight.

New Delhi police have also urged people to use metro services as much as possible due to the regulated movement of traffic.

More than 50,000 personnel along with along with canine squads and mounted police are roaming the city.

During the summit, Indian Air Force aircraft, including Rafale fighter jets, will be protecting the skies above the city.

G-20 member states which may send delegates to the summit include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the UK, and the US.

Besides the members, India also invited the leaders of Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Egypt, Mauritius, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates.

Officials from international organizations such as the UN, International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank have also been invited.
