Senators ask Trump to provide rational for inspectors general firings
Leaders of Senate Judiciary Committee also request names of officials who will serve in acting capacities

WASHINGTON (AA) - The leaders of the US Senate Judiciary Committee asked President Donald Trump on Tuesday to detail the rationale for firing inspectors general (IG) from 18 offices.
"Congress was not provided the legally required 30-day notice and case-specific reasons for removal, as required by law. Accordingly, we request that you provide that information immediately,” Sens. Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin wrote in a letter.
The senators also requested the name of each official who will serve in an acting capacity.
They also urged Trump to "quickly" nominate qualified and nonpartisan individuals to permanently fill the vacancies.
The letter came after Trump ordered the dismissal of federal staffers from across government agencies, including the mass dismissals of what multiple reports said was at least 18 IGs on Friday.
Several prosecutors who worked on cases against Trump, including those who served in Special Counsel Jack Smith's office, have also been fired.
