JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli was killed on Tuesday in a rocket attack from Lebanon amid an escalation of cross-border fire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Israel’s ambulance service Magen David Adom said an Israeli man died from rocket fire in Ma'alot Tarshiha settlement in the Galilee region in northern Israel.

Israeli public broadcaster KAN said a rocket directly hit a house in Ma'alot Tarshiha, seriously injuring one person, who was later pronounced dead.

A military statement said some 50 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Upper and Western Galilee regions since morning, causing sirens to sound there.

The army said some of the projectiles were intercepted, while others fell in open areas.

Israel has mounted a massive air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on Gaza.

Over 2,700 people have been killed and nearly 12,500 injured in Israeli attacks since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel expanded the conflict on Oct. 1 this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
