ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was killed and nine others injured in Ukraine on Wednesday as Kyiv claimed to have downed 22 Russian drones overnight.

In a statement on Telegram, Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said that one person was killed and eight others injured in his region after Russian airstrikes damaged three high-rise buildings and eight private homes.

“An educational institution, a dormitory, an office building, a public catering establishment, shops and a gas pipeline were also hit,” Prokudin further said, adding that four drones were downed over the region.

Meanwhile, Poltava Governor Filip Pronin said that an industrial facility in the region was hit and a man was injured.

A total of 27 drones were launched by Russia from the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014, and the country’s border region of Kursk, Ukraine’s Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Telegram.

He went on to say that 22 of the drones were downed over the regions of Kherson and Poltava, as well as Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions.

Local authorities in the regions of Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy did not report any casualties caused by the overnight drone attack.

Russian officials have not yet commented on the claims.
