ISTANBUL (AA) - Ghana's Electoral Commission announced on Friday that 13 candidates have been approved to contest in the country's presidential election scheduled for Dec. 7, 2024.
The list includes country's Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Following scrutiny of the nomination papers, the commission announced the candidates, according to a statement.
The approved candidates represent a mix of established political parties and independent runners, including Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former NPP member now running independently.
Ghana's presidential elections are held every four years, with the president serving a maximum of two terms.
Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo, serving since 2016, reached his two-term limit.
Ghanaians will also vote for 275 parliamentary seats on the same day.
