DIYALA, Iraq (AA) - At least two civilians were killed and two injured in separate attacks Friday by the Daesh/ISIS terror group in eastern Diyala and northern Kirkuk in Iraq.
Habib al-Shimmar, police captain at Diyala Security Directorate, told Anadolu Agency that terrorists detonated an explosive by remote control that was planted in farmland near Mansuriya. That attack killed one and injured two people.
He said security forces launched an operation in the region to capture those responsible.
Separately, Kirkuk police head Ali Kemal told the Turkish news agency that five terrorists infiltrated the village of Bajwan, northwest of Kirkuk, and carried out an armed attack on a house, killing one person.
The terrorists left the area after the attack and escaped to rural areas, said Kemal.
Officials in Baghdad declared in late 2017 that the military presence of Daesh/ISIS in Iraq had been all but destroyed.
But the terrorists still have a presence in rural areas of Anbar, Diyala, Kirkuk, Saladin and Mosul.
The Iraqi army continues to carry out frequent operations against the group in parts of the country.
