ATHENS (AA) — An explosion at a fuel depot near Italy's central city of Florence killed at least two people and injured eight others, local media reported on Monday.
At least three people remain missing following the blast, according to a report by the state-run ANSA news agency, citing Tuscany Governor Eugenio Giani.
Giani said an extensive rescue and relief operation is underway.
Eni, the energy company that owns the depot, stated that the explosion did not affect the fuel tanks, which hold large quantities of fuel. Firefighters are working to bring the flames under control.
The city’s municipality has advised residents to keep their windows closed to protect against smoke and potential further explosions.
