ATHENS (AA) — At least two people died in Bulgaria due to strong winds that have blown down trees and other debris, local media reported on Sunday.

A 43-year-old woman died in the southern city of Varna after being trapped by fallen tree branches on her, according to state-run news agency BTA.

Moreover, a 65-year-old man traveling with his wife died in the capital Sofia when a tree fell on their car, it added.

Fallen trees blocked roads and damaged electricity cables in many regions across the country, including Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, and Stara Zagora.

Several urban areas were left without power and access to other towns and cities, the agency announced.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology issued an orange code for the eastern part of the country, where hurricanes and heavy rainfall are forecast.
