2 former Chinese football officials jailed for bribery

Both officials sentenced to 11 years in prison each, fined, according to local media

ANKARA (AA) - Two former Chinese football officials have been sentenced to 11 years in prison each for taking bribes, state media reported on Monday.

Li Yuyi, a former vice-president of the Chinese Football Association, was sentenced to 11 years in jail and fined 1 million yuan (about 139,860 US dollars) by the Intermediate People's Court of Jingzhou in central China's Hubei province, Beijing-based Xinhua News reported, citing a court statement.

His illegal gains from the bribery will be recovered and turned over to the state treasury.

In a related development, the People's Court of Jiayu County in Hubei sentenced Fu Xiang, ex-executive vice president and secretary-general of the Wuhan Football Association, to 11 years in jail for embezzlement, taking and giving bribes.

Fu was also fined 1.4 million yuan (USD 196,250), whereas the money he embezzled and illegal gains from the bribery will be recovered and turned over to the state treasury.
