ISTANBUL (AA) - Two former Hong Kong opposition lawmakers have been sentenced to up to 16 days in prison for disrupting a 2019 Legislative Council meeting on a controversial extradition bill, the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday.
Eddie Chu Hoi-dick was sentenced to 14 days in prison while Raymond Chan Chi-chuen received a 16-day sentence.
Chu pleaded guilty to four counts of assaulting, obstructing or molesting a member within the council chamber precincts, While Chan pleaded guilty to two similar counts.
The former lawmakers sought to disrupt a 2019 Legislative Council meeting in an attempt to halt the proceedings of a committee reviewing the controversial extradition bill.
The government eventually abandoned the bill amid citywide protests.
Court documents recorded that the 2019 incident led to the injuries of two pro-establishment lawmakers, Ben Chan Han-pan and Elizabeth Quat.
