ZONGULDAK, Turkey (AA) - Turkish police arrested at least two fugitives for alleged links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey, according to security sources on Thursday.
Security forces in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak ascertained that the convicts were hiding in the Ormeci village of the Gokcebey district, said the source on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
The fugitives, identified as H.S. and L.S., were imprisoned after legal proceedings, it added.
FETO and its US-based leader, Fetullah Gulen, orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were killed and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
