JERUSALEM (AA) - Two Israeli soldiers sustained serious injuries Saturday in fighting in the central Gaza Strip.
“Two soldiers from the 46th Battalion of the 401st Brigade were seriously injured in battles in central Gaza Strip this morning (Saturday),” the army wrote on X. “The fighters were evacuated to receive medical treatment at the hospital.”
The army did not specify details of the area where the soldiers were injured.
Since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack on the Gaza envelope, 3,193 Israeli soldiers have been injured, including 1,552 who were injured since the beginning of a ground invasion on Oct. 27.
In addition, 600 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the onslaught on Gaza, including 256 since the beginning of ground battles, according to official figures from the Israeli army.
Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack in early October by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, killed less than 1,200 people.
More than 33,100 Palestinians have since been killed and over 75,800 injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.
The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which last week asked it to do more to prevent famine in Gaza.
