KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – At least two people were killed and another was injured in a blast in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place on a main thoroughfare in Peshawar, the capital of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders neighboring Afghanistan.

Peshawar police chief Kashif Abbasi told reporters that an investigation is underway to determine whether the bombing was carried out by a suicide bomber.

The preliminary investigation, according to him, suggested that the suspected bomber, who was also killed in the blast, was riding a motorcycle while transporting the explosive material.

There is a possibility that the explosive material could have gone off during the shift, he added.

Local broadcaster Geo News aired footage showing a charred motorcycle lying in the middle of the road, with security personnel cordoning off the site.
