MOSCOW (AA) - Two civilians were killed and four others injured on Wednesday in a Ukrainian strike on the city of Lysychansk located in the Russia-controlled Luhansk region, an official said.

The Ukrainian troops fired six US-made HIMARS rockets at the city center, destroying two residential buildings, the head of the region, Leonid Pasechnik, said on Telegram.

"The cynical shelling by the armed forces of Ukraine of residential buildings in Lysychansk, according to preliminary information, claimed the lives of two civilians. Four more injured were taken to hospitals, they are receiving all necessary medical care," he said.

The emergency services are working at the spot, he added, fearing that the death toll may further rise.

Ukraine is yet to comment on Russia's claims.
