2 killed as Israeli forces shell hospital in Gaza’s Khan Younis

Shelling targets Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis city, according to witnesses

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – At least two people were killed in Israeli shelling of a hospital in Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip, according to witnesses on Sunday.

Another Palestinian was seriously injured in the attack that targeted Nasser Medical Complex, witnesses said.

“Israeli snipers shoot at any moving object near the complex,” an eyewitness told Anadolu.

Gaza’s Health Ministry has yet to confirm the fatalities.

Israel has pounded Khan Younis since Jan. 22 as part of its deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip following an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

At least 28,176 Palestinians have been killed and 67,784 others injured in the Israeli offensive, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.

The Israeli onslaught has left 85% of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure was damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

In late 2023 South Africa filed a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Israel of failing to uphold its commitments under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

The UN court, in its interim ruling in January, ruled that South Africa’s claims are plausible. It ordered provisional measures for Israel’s government to desist from genocidal acts, and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
