RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - At least two Palestinians were injured by Israeli army gunfire on Saturday during a storming of the town of Beit Ummar, north of the city of Hebron, in the southern West Bank.
“Two young men were shot by occupation bullets, one in the abdomen and the other in the hand,” a local activist, Muhammad Ayyad Awad, told Anadolu.
The two Palestinians were transferred to the hospital for treatment, he added.
Large army forces stormed the town at 3 a.m. local time (0100GMT) and launched a campaign of widespread raids on homes, accompanied by sabotage operations of property, Awad added.
He said the army arrested about 20 Palestinians, and then released some of them after investigation.
While the world’s attention is focused on Gaza, where Israel's assault since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas have killed at least 27,947 Palestinians and led to a humanitarian catastrophe, violence in the occupied West Bank has grown.
More than 388 Palestinians have been killed, and 4,450 others were injured by Israeli army fire and in attacks by illegal Jewish settlers since Oct. 7, according to Palestinian figures.
