KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – At least 20 civilians were killed and 20 others injured in a drone attack in western Sudan, a local activist group said on Sunday.
The strike targeted the Awlad Al-Reef neighborhood in central El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State late Saturday, the Coordination of Resistance Committees said, accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group of being behind the attack.
There was no comment from the RSF on the accusation.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that 1,070 families have been displaced in North Darfur State due to clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF.
El Fasher has witnessed fierce clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF since May 10. The city is used by the UN and international aid agencies as a humanitarian operation center for the Darfur region.
Sudan has been ravaged by fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF since April 2023.
The fighting has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and displaced over 14 million people, according to estimates from the UN and local authorities.
