ANKARA (AA) - Javi Martinez, who helped propel Spain to capture the 2010 FIFA World Cup, on Wednesday joined Qatar Sports Club, the football club said.
The Gulf state team said on Twitter that it signed the Spanish midfielder for the upcoming season.
Martinez, 32, was a Bayern Munich player for nearly a decade, from 2012 to 2021, before leaving the German team on June 30 to be a free agent.
Before Bayern Munich, he played for Spain's Athletic Bilbao.
Martinez was a nine-time German champion with Bayern Munich.
He played 268 matches to score 14 goals for the German team.
The Spanish national also helped Bayern Munich win two UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, and five German Cups as well as two FIFA Club World Cups.
Martinez also helped the Spanish national team bag the 2010 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2012 trophy.
He had 18 international caps for Spain.
