NEW DELHI (AA) - Three Indian paramilitary troops were killed and 14 others injured in a gun battle with Maoist rebels in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, authorities said on Tuesday.
The gunfight between rebels and the Central Reserve Police Force took place in the village of Tekalgudem, said a statement from the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Office.
Sundarraj Pattilingam, a police official in the region, said that additional troops have been deployed to the area.
The Maoist rebels have been fighting for more than three decades in eastern and central India for what they describe as the rights of tribal people in the region.
