JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army said on Saturday that it retaliated with fire after three Israeli soldiers were wounded in a mortar shell attack on the Shebaa Farms near the border with Lebanon.
The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement: “A number of shells were monitored from Lebanese territory towards the Jabal Douf area (Shebaa Farms).”
The statement added: "Israeli army forces are now attacking the source of the shooting."
According to an Anadolu correspondent, a missile bombardment targeted Ruwaisat Al-Alam, an Israeli site, and other sites in the Kfar Shuba hills and Shebaa Farms in southern Lebanon.
In response, Israeli forces fired artillery shells towards the border areas, according to the reporter.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Hezbollah group announced that it attacked Israeli positions in the Shebaa Farms with guided missiles and mortar shells.
“Groups of the resistance attacked the Zionist positions in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms with guided missiles and mortar shells, inflicting precise and direct damage, according to what was reported by the group’s Al-Manar channel,” Hezbollah said in a statement.
The sites included Al-Radar, Ruwaisat Al-Alam, Al-Samaqa, Zabdin and Ramtha, according to the statement.
Lebanon insists that the Shebaa Farms area, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, is Lebanese territory.
