JERUSALEM (AA) – Three Israelis were injured on Monday by the fragments of an interceptor missile after a rocket salvo from Lebanon, the Israeli media said.

A military statement said some 50 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, triggering air-raid sirens in the Galilee region.

The army said some of the rockets were intercepted, while others landed in open areas.

Israel’s national ambulance service Magen David Adom said three people were injured by the shrapnel of an interceptor missile in Karmiel in northern Israel.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said early Monday that it had fired a barrage of rockets toward Safed in northern Israel and troop deployments on the outskirts of Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon.

Israel has escalated its air campaign in Lebanon since late September against what it claims are targets of the Hezbollah group in an escalation from year-long cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.

Nearly 3,200 people have been killed and over 13,800 injured in Israeli attacks since October 2023, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel expanded the conflict by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1 this year.
