NEW DELHI (AA) - Three Indian naval personnel were killed in an explosion on board the INS Ranvir destroyer, an official statement said on Tuesday evening.
In an "unfortunate incident" at the naval dockyard in the city of Mumbai, the three naval personnel were killed by injuries "caused by an explosion in an internal compartment" on the warship, according to a navy spokesman.
"The ship's crew responded immediately and quickly, brought the situation under control. No major material damage has been reported," added the spokesman.
The navy said the destroyer was "on cross coast operational deployment from the eastern naval command since Nov 2021 and was due to return to base port shortly."
It did not mention, however, whether there had been injuries in the incident.
A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause, said the navy statement.
