ISTANBUL (AA) – Three Turkish museums have been nominated for the 2025 European Museum of the Year Awards (EMYA), which recognize excellence in museum concepts and encourage innovative practices in international museology.
This year, three museums from Türkiye are nominated for the prestigious award, which has been organized annually since 1977 by the European Museum Forum (EMF) under the patronage of the Council of Europe.
The Turkish nominees are Istanbul Modern, a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art; the Isbank Painting and Sculpture Museum, which exhibits works by significant figures in Turkish painting; and the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, which has been open since 1964 and is housed within Bodrum Castle.
Other nominees include "Salon Stolz" and "Wien Museum" from Austria, "Carl Nielsen Museum" and "Foundation Museum Ovartaci" from Denmark, "Enserune,” “Oppidum and Archaeological Museum" and "National Navy Museum" from France, "Deutschlandmuseum" from Germany, "Maria Callas Museum" from Greece, "House of Hungarian Music" from Hungary, and "Gallerie d'Italia" from Italy.
The nominees and former candidates will gather at the EMYA Annual Conference, which will take place in Bialystok, Poland, from May 21 to 25, next year.
Following presentations during the conference, the winners will be announced at the award ceremony on May 24.
