3rd Republican backs US House speaker's ouster

Rep. Paul Gosar joins Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, other 2 co-sponsors of motion to vacate against speaker

WASHINGTON (AA) - Rep. Paul Gosar on Friday has become the third Republican to back effort to oust US House Speaker Mike Johnson.

"I have added my name in support of the motion to vacate the Speaker," Gosar said in a statement.

Gosar joined Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie, the other two co-sponsors of the motion to vacate against speaker.

"Our border cannot be an afterthought. We need a Speaker who puts America first rather than bending to the reckless demands of the warmongers, neo-cons and the military industrial complex making billions from a costly and endless war half a world away," Gosar said.

His move came after the House advanced a foreign aid package with Democratic support.

Recently, House Speaker Mike Johnson unveiled his plan to hold votes on four separate foreign aid bills, a move that has angered some far-right House Republicans.

Besides aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, the fourth will include other national security priorities, including a TikTok ban, a provision to help pay for aid by using seized Russian assets, sanctions and other measures to confront Russia, China and Iran.
