48 people killed in Russian strike on grocery shop, Ukraine claims

Talks 'underway' with European leaders to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

ANKARA (AA) — Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed Thursday that 48 people were killed in a Russian strike on a grocery shop in the eastern city of Kupiansk.

On Telegram, Zelenskyy called the attack "demonstratively tough" and expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims.

"Everyone who helps Russia circumvent sanctions is a criminal. Everyone who has supported Russia until now, supports evil," Zelenskyy said, vowing a "just and powerful" response to the attack.

He also thanked Kyiv's supporters, adding that talks with European leaders were underway to strengthen the country's air defenses.
