LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) – At least 49 terrorists were killed in airstrikes by Nigerian forces in the country’s restive northeast, local media reported on Thursday.
Hideouts of Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist groups were targeted in the northeastern Borno State, news outlets PRNigeria and Daily Post reported, citing defense sources.
The airstrikes were focused on areas in Amchile, Gargash and Gazuwa areas, according to the reports.
The Nigerian military is yet to comment on the operation.
Nigeria has been battling terror groups in the country’s northeastern parts since 2009.
Over the past 13 years, more than 100,000 people, including civilians and security personnel, have been killed in the violence-stricken region, according to government data.
