KYIV, Ukraine (AA) – At least five people were killed and 15 others injured in Russian missile attacks on the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday.
Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Ukrainian military administration of the Donetsk region, said on social media that Russia attacked Slovyansk with S-300 missiles at around 16:00 local time (GMT1300).
Saying that five apartment buildings and five houses were damaged in the attacks, Kyrylenko added: “It is clear that five people died and 15 people were injured."
Noting that there may be seven people, including one child, under the wreckage, he said that healthcare staff as well as search and rescue teams continue their work at the scene.
On Telegram, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia "brutally shelled the city. Residential buildings were hit. Unfortunately, wounded and dead are reported."
Zelenskyy said that Russia "once again demonstrates its essence. Just killing people in broad daylight. Ruining, destroying all life."
"There will be fair accountability for every manifestation of terrorism," he said. "We will not leave a single trace of Russia on our land. And we will not leave any enemy unpunished either."
