SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir (AA) - Five suspected militants were killed on Friday in the southern Kulgam district of Indian-administered Kashmir, according to regional police.
The Kashmir Zone Police said in a statement that they also recovered incriminating material from the operation site on the second day of the encounter, in which five militants were killed.
"Search operation in progress and the area is being ‘sanitised,’” the police wrote on social media platform X.
Regional police, the Indian army and the Indian Central Reserve Police Force on Thursday launched a joint operation in the D H Pora area of Kulgam district after a brief exchange of fire between militants and government forces.
So far this month, eight militants have been killed, including two along the Line of Control -- which divides the disputed region between India and Pakistan.
“More than 50 militants have been killed this year, mostly foreign militants," police sources told Anadolu last month.
