ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukraine claimed that at least six people were killed and eight more injured in the Russian missile attack on Wednesday evening in the country's southwestern Odesa region.
“The enemy (Russia) hit a Panama-flagged civilian container ship. As a result of the attack, six people died, eight were injured, and four of them are in serious condition,” Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.
All of those affected by the missile attack are receiving all necessary assistance, Kiper said, adding that the attack targeted regional port infrastructure.
He said it was the third such attack in four days.
The governor accused Russia of trying to disrupt the work of the Ukrainian Maritime Food Corridor, which was established by Kyiv in August 2023 after Moscow suspended participation in the Black Sea grain deal a month earlier.
"I urge all states and organizations to condemn Russian attacks and take action to stop the aggressor, ensure freedom of navigation and global food security," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha separately wrote on X.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the Ukraine claim.
