ANKARA (AA) - Seven people were killed and more than 40 others injured after a massive fire broke out in a residential building in India’s western Maharashtra state, local authorities said on Friday.
The fire erupted in the seven-story building at around 3:00 a.m. local time in the Mumbai suburb of Goregaon, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
BMC said that out of 51 injured, seven people lost their lives in the fire, and four remain critical. Some 35 people were still under treatment at the hospitals.
The fire was extinguished at around 6:54 a.m. local time.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote on X: “We are in touch with BMC and Mumbai Police officials & all the assistance is being provided.”
