ROME (AA) - The death toll from the new coronavirus in Italy climbed to 79, the head of Italy's Civil Protection agency announced Tuesday.
Angelo Borelli said 27 more people have died from the disease, with 2,263 cases confirmed.
Borelli said 160 infected patients were successfully treated and discharged from hospitals across the country.
The global death toll from the virus, officially known as the COVID-19, has topped 3,071, with more than 89,000 infected.
The World Health Organization, which already declared the outbreak an international health emergency, updated the global risk level to very high.
