ISTANBUL (AA) – Eight people were injured in Ukraine’s fourth-largest city of Dnipro in a Russian missile attack early on Tuesday.
“In Dnipro, rescuers extinguished the fire that arose as a result of the morning enemy attack ... Previously, eight people were injured, including two children,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said on Telegram.
In an earlier statement, Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhii Lysak said Ukraine’s air defenses shot down two missiles over the region, but that falling debris from the missiles damaged civilian infrastructure and caused a fire.
Lysak said one of the children is a month old and will be treated as an outpatient, while the other is a 17-year-old boy in "moderate condition."
“One and a half dozen cars were damaged. Broken windows in private houses, high-rise buildings and a hospital,” he added.
Teams of concerned departments are working to remove debris from the areas, he said.
Meanwhile, the city of Nikopol was also targeted by a Russian drone attack overnight, he said, adding that there were no casualties.
Ukraine's Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk later claimed that two Iskander missiles were shot down over the Dnipropetrovsk region and were launched from Crimea, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.
He added that two of Russia's four drones launched overnight were also shot down by the country's air defenses.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
