8 killed, 15 injured in market fire in northern China

Firefighters, along with emergency response and medical teams, arrive at site and extinguish fire, according to local media

ISTANBUL (AA) - Eight people lost their lives and 15 others were injured as a market in China’s northern Hebei province caught fire on Saturday.

The fire erupted at a marketplace that sells vegetables and other essential goods in the Qiaoxi district of the city of Zhangjiakou, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Firefighters, along with emergency response and medical teams, arrived at the site and extinguished the fire.

The injured were rushed to hospital, with authorities saying that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
