ATHENS (AA) - The eight anniversary of July 15 defeated coup bid by Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) was commemorated in Athens.
Speaking at the commemoration event held in the Turkish Embassy in Athens, Ambassador Cagatay Erciyes stressed the importance of the popular resistance in defeat of the bid.
“Against the brain-washed FETO members, common Turkish people as well as patriotic service members of the Turkish Armed Forces and police officers took to the streets and squares across the country upon the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and defeated the treacherous bid,” he said.
Erciyes also warned that FETO terror group intensified its operations abroad after its crushing defeat in Türkiye.
Turkish diplomatic corps remains vigilant to warn their interlocutors regarding the dangers and threats posed by the FETO terror group, he added.
The event was also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador in Greece Arif Mammadov as well Turkish diplomats and representatives of the Turkish intuitions in Athens.
Since its designation in October 2016, every year Türkiye marks July 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day, with events held nationwide to commemorate those who lost their lives beating back the putschists and to remember the bravery of the nation.
