ISLAMABAD (AA) - At least nine people were killed and several others injured Saturday in a fire in a shopping mall in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, officials said.
The fire erupted in a six-storey building filled with hundreds of shops on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road. The mall was not open at the time but there were still some people there.
The Karachi Fire Department has so far confirmed nine casualties, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui said on X, adding that search and rescue operation are continuing.
The rescue and emergency department said that over 20 people have been rescued and taken to hospital.
