-Norwegian jazz pianist to perform in Istanbul
Norwegian jazz pianist and composer Jon Balke will take the stage at Istanbul’s Sakip Sabanci Museum as part of the Jazz in Ramadan event on June 27.
Balke who performed in Istanbul in 2013 during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will be in Istanbul with a musical orchestra Siwan,.
“Based on the poetry of Al Andalus, the music is a tribute to the coexistence of the three religions that created such a golden age of culture and science,” according to Balke’s official website.

-Nile Rodgers to perform at Istanbul Jazz Festival
American musician Nile Rodgers will perform with his band CHIC at Istanbul’s Kucukciftlik Park on June 28 as part of the Istanbul Jazz Festival.
The Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be accompanying Rodgers and his band.
The festival starts on June 27 with a concert of around 50 Syrian musicians. The project presented by Blur frontman, Damon Albarn.
More than 200 Turkish and international musicians will turn Istanbul into a jazz stage during this summer, with almost 50 concerts in over 20 venues.

-Exhibition focuses on photography in Turkey
Istanbul Modern Museum is hosting an exhibition on photography shot in Turkey over the last 80 years.
Titled People Attract People, the exhibition curated by Merih Akogul and brings together works from 80 photographers. The display will be open until Dec. 18.
“The history of photography in Turkey from the Ottoman to the Republican era was shaped first by European travelers who were mainly interested in the landscape and the daily life of the country,” a statement from the museum said.
“Some photographers were drawn to the nature and historical texture of Turkey and other investigated daily life in the developing big cities, primarily Istanbul,” the statement.
