ANKARA (AA) - AC Monza defender Pablo Mari has undergone a surgery following a stabbing attack in a supermarket, the Italian Serie A club said on Friday.
"The surgery went well and a hospital stay of two or three days is expected," the team said, adding that Mari is set to be out of action for at least two months.
The 29-year-old Spanish player was among six people attacked at the Assago shopping center in Milan on Thursday.
Mari was loaned to AC Monza from English Premier League side Arsenal until June 2023.
According to Italy's ANSA news agency, a man said to be suffering mental-health problems had carried out the attack.
It reported that Monza CEO Adriano Galliani said the Serie A club has requested their league match against Bologna on Monday be postponed.
"The team is in shock," Galliani said. "We have a united squad in which everyone is friends. Everyone was crying last night."
