ISTANBUL (AA) - Global air cargo markets continued to grow strongly in demand in May, the International Air Transport Association said on Tuesday.

Total demand, measured in cargo ton-kilometers, rose 14.7% from May 2023 – the sixth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth.

Capacity, measured in available cargo ton-kilometers, climbed 6.7% from May 2023.

Willie Walsh, the group's director general, said: "Air cargo demand moved sharply upwards in May across all regions.

"The sector benefitted from trade growth, booming e-commerce and capacity constraints on maritime shipping."
