Airstrike kills 6 Daesh terrorists in Kirkuk, Iraq

Air raid carried out by international coalition against ISIS

By Ali Jawad

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AA) - At least six terrorists from the Daesh/ISIS terror group were killed on Sunday in an airstrike in Kirkuk province, northern Iraq, according to the Iraqi army.

"The international coalition against ISIS targeted a tunnel in Sarjoun, southern Kirkuk," it said in a statement, adding that the air raid destroyed the hideout completely.

In recent months, suspected Daesh/ISIS militants have stepped up attacks, particularly in the area between Kirkuk, Saladin (north), and Diyala (east), known as the "Triangle of Death."

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over the terrorist group by reclaiming all its territory – about a third of the country’s area – invaded in 2014.

However, it still maintains sleeper cells, and launches attacks periodically. The Iraqi army continues to carryout anti-terror operations.
