Ajax signed English midfielder Jordan Henderson on Thursday.

Amsterdam's Ajax said Henderson, who played for Sunderland and Liverpool, sealed the contract with the Dutch powerhouse that will expire June 30, 2026.

Henderson, 33, was a free agent and agreed to terminate his deal with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq recently.

The English international was a regular for Liverpool in 2011-2023 and became the captain of the Reds in 2015.

He moved from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq on July 27 and played in Saudi Arabia less than six months.

"We wanted an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities. Partially due to injuries in the team, we were looking for someone who could step in immediately. Jordan Henderson is that type of player," said Ajax head coach John van 't Schip.

"Amsterdam! So happy to be here. Can't wait to see you all soon," Henderson wrote on X.

Henderson helped Liverpool win several trophies including the 2019 UEFA Champions League and the 2020 English Premier League title as well as a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

He piled up 81 international caps for England.
