BEIRUT (AA) - Hamas' military wing Al-Qassam Brigades said Wednesday that they targeted military sites in northern Israel from southern Lebanon with 40 Grad missiles.

They targeted with two 40 Grad missiles the command headquarters of the Eastern Brigade 769 in Ghaybour Camp and the airport barracks in Beit Hillel, in the northern Palestinian territories occupied by Israel, said the Lebanon-based Al-Qassam in a statement.

The attack is in response to the Israeli massacres against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and "the assassination of resistance leaders in the southern suburbs of Beirut," the statement added.

On Jan. 2, an Israeli airstrike assassinated the deputy chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, and several of his comrades in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Israeli media reported early Wednesday that some 14 missiles were fired from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel early Wednesday.

Fourteen missiles were fired on the Kiryat Shmona town, causing damage to a building with no injuries, according to the Israeli Channel 12.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension came amid an ongoing Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip launched following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
