The 2024 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, is poised for men's singles quarterfinal showdown between Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz.
In the Round 4, Spanish second seed Carlos Alcaraz secured victory on Monday by defeating Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic with sets of 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 at Rod Laver Arena.
Meanwhile, Germany's Alexander Zverev, ranked world no. 6, fought a hard battle to emerge victorious against the UK's Cameron Norrie in a five-set match lasting at least four hours.
Zverev won the match with the sets of 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (10-3) in the fourth round.
Throughout his career, the 26-year-old Zverev has been unable to progress beyond the Australian Open semifinals. His best performance in a Grand Slam came as the finalist in the 2020 US Open.
On the other hand, 20-year-old Alcaraz is set to play his first quarterfinal in Melbourne. The Spanish star has already secured two major titles: the 2022 US Open and the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
The Australian Open will conclude with men's final on Sunday.
