ALGIERS, Algeria / BAGHDAD, Iraq / RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - In the Arab world, Algeria, Iraq and Palestine reported more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, health authorities said Tuesday.
In Algeria, the Health Ministry recorded 13 more deaths and 87 cases, bringing the total to 2,070 cases, including 326 deaths and 691 recoveries.
The Iraqi Health Ministry confirmed 22 cases were recorded across the country, raising the total to 1,400, including 766 recoveries while the death toll remained at 78.
The Palestinian government confirmed three more cases, bringing the total to 287.
More than 1.94 million COVID-19 cases have been reported in 185 countries and regions since the virus was first detected in Wuhan, China in December. Over 122,000 have died of complications from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, while nearly 467,000 others have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University in the U.S.
Most people who become infected exhibit mild symptoms, but it can be especially fatal for the elderly and for individuals with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and asthma.
