ALGIERS, Algeria (AA) - Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune urged holding Israel accountable for crimes against Palestinians and stressed Friday that the "era of impunity and lack of accountability has ended."
Tebboune made the comments in a speech at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement summit in Kampala, Uganda, that was delivered by Algerian Premier Nadir Larbaoui on his behalf, according to Algeria's official news agency.
He called for intensified collective efforts to advocate for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the need to amplify the voice of justice and uphold the rule of law.
The Algerian president described what the Palestinian people are experiencing of aggression as "an Israeli genocidal war."
The 19th Non-Aligned Movement summit kicked off Friday in Kampala and is scheduled to last run until Jan. 24.
Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas which Tel Aviv said killed 1,200 people.
At least 24,762 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and 62,108 injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.
The Israeli offensive has left 85% of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure was damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
