ANKARA (AA) - An Ankara court will hear the case of 18 suspects who attempted to take over police headquarters in Golbasi district during July 15 defeated coup.
The 14th Ankara High Criminal Court said on Friday the suspects would appear at court on February 21, at 10:00 a.m. local time, and the hearing would continue for three days.
According to the indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office, the 18 suspects attempted to take over the police special operations headquarters in Ankara's Golbasi district during the July 15 defeated coup.
The suspects martyred Sgt. Omer Halisdemir who became the symbol of the Turkish nation's resistance against the coup attempt as he shot pro-coup Brig. Gen. Semih Terzi at the entrance of the headquarters.
The public prosecutor's office demanded aggravated life imprisonment sentences for all coup plotters on charges of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order and the government. Moreover, the prosecutor asked up to 15 years of imprisonment for each defendants on charges of being members of armed terrorist group.
Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) is accused of orchestrating the coup attempt, which left 248 martyrs in its wake and some 2,200 people injured.
