BEIRUT (AA) – Lebanese group Hezbollah said Sunday that one of its fighters had been killed in border clashes with Israeli forces.

The group identified the slain fighter as Muhammad Hassan Baydoun from the border town of Bint Jbeil, without providing further details about the circumstances of his death.

The new fatality brought to 315 Hezbollah fighters killed in clashes with Israeli forces since Oct. 8, according to an Anadolu tally.

Hezbollah said its fighters also shelled the Jal al-Alam site and a gathering of Israeli soldiers in northern Israel, resulting in a direct hit.

Separately, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said two people were killed and others injured when an Israeli drone struck a motorbike in the city of Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The escalation comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed nearly 36,000 people since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.
