Argentina's FIFA World Cup winning head coach Cesar Luis Menotti died at the age of 85 on Sunday, the country's football body confirmed.
"The Argentine Football Association regrets to report with great sadness the death of Cesar Luis Menotti, current Director of National Teams and former World Champion coach of Argentina," it said on X.
Menotti guided Argentina to their first-ever World Cup triumph on home soil in 1978.
Argentina added two other World Cups to their trophy cabinet, the last in Qatar 2022.
In the 1978 World Cup final in Buenos Aires, Menotti's men beat the Netherlands 3-1 after extra time.
The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid boss had reportedly been hospitalized with anemia before his death.
His ex-clubs in Spain -- Barcelona and Atletico Madrid -- and Argentina's leading football clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate that he served for each offered their condolences.
