ANKARA (AA) - 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Angel Di Maria from Argentina returned to Benfica on Wednesday, according to the Portuguese club.
"Angel Di Maria has signed a contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica and is a new addition to the team led by Roger Schmidt. The 35-year-old Argentine forward returns to Estadio da Luz and will once again wear the Sacred Mantle," read a statement from Benfica.
Di Maria was a Benfica regular during the 2007 - 2010 seasons where he won a Portuguese league title.
Last season, he played for Juventus but left the Italian club in June.
He previously played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France for seven years, where he earned five local titles.
Before PSG, Di Maria played for Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, and England's Manchester United.
He won the 2014 UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid.
In the 2022-23 campaign, the Argentine winger was featured in 40 matches and scored eight goals for Juventus.
Di Maria also played for Argentina and won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He scored in the final against France.
