BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - At least 12 people were killed in an attack at a pre-Christmas party in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, authorities said Sunday.
The attack took place in the town of Salvatierra when an armed group opened fire on partygoers.
Another 12 people got injured and taken to hospital, according to authorities.
Salvatierra Mayor German Cervantes condemned the violence, saying: "I condemn the unfortunate act of violence that occurred in the community of San Jose del Carmen this morning. We are thoroughly cooperating with the prosecutor's office."
Guanajuato is said to be one of the most violent states in the country, with frequent clashes between powerful drug trafficking groups.
