ANKARA (AA) - An armed suspect shot and martyred a police officer during a security control in capital Ankara, a police source said on Tuesday.
The incident came after a police officer made the suspected man get off a passenger bus, which was en route to Istanbul from southeastern Siirt province, during a security control.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the suspect opened fire at the police officer, whose name is disclosed, while running away towards the woods.
The police officer, who was injured at the scene, later succumbed to his injuries at Golbasi State Hospital, the source added.
Police special operation forces started an operation to catch the suspect at large.
